Dyslexia Assessments
I currently provide assessments for learners aged 8 to 18 years of age. These in-depth assessments take between 3 and 4 hours to complete, allowing rest breaks where needed. Assessments may take place in the learner’s home, school or my home. Before the assessment, both a parent/guardian and school questionnaire will need to be completed, outlining background and developmental information as well as current strengths and challenges. The assessment includes a range of tests to evaluate current abilities in reading, spelling, writing, handwriting, mathematics (if appropriate) alongside phonological awareness, memory, processing speed and visual and verbal ability.
Within three weeks of the assessment taking place, I will send parents/guardians or the school (depending on who requested the assessment) a detailed assessment report. This report will provide an in-depth insight into the learner’s strengths and needs in relation to each aspect of the assessment as well as confirming whether difficulties consistent with dyslexia were identified. It will also provide clear and personalised recommendations on how to best support the individual in class, at home and on an individual basis. These helpful recommendations will be provided regardless of the assessment outcome. The report will also make recommendations for access arrangements for exams, if appropriate. It must be noted that the learner’s school will any final decisions in terms of access arrangements so the recommendations in the report cannot be guaranteed.
How does the process work?
Please see below a summary of how the process works. After getting in touch, you will be sent the full terms and conditions, alongside an initial consent form to sign.
· Please ensure that the learner has had a sight and hearing test within the previous two years. If this has not been done, please arrange an eyesight test as soon as possible.
· After signing a consent form and agreeing to the terms and conditions, a fee of £50 is payable before sending out the initial questionnaires. If a parent is arranging the assessment, they are responsible for forwarding the school questionnaire onto their child’s school.
· Once the questionnaires from home and school have been completed and returned, we can book an assessment date. A 50% payment of the assessment is due upon booking the assessment date and the remaining payment is due one week before the assessment.
· On the day of assessment, a quiet room will be needed so the assessor can sit opposite the pupil without any interruptions.
· The assessment can take between 3-4 hours and rest and toilet breaks will be provided where necessary.
· Upon completion of the assessment, you can expect a full report within three weeks (unless informed otherwise).
Costs of the Assessment:
Cost for sending out initial paperwork and questionnaires (non-refundable): £50
Cost for full diagnostic assessment: £600
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss any of this in further detail or would like to arrange a dyslexia assessment for your child or student.
Specialist Teaching for Dyslexia and Literacy Difficulties
I provide one-to-one support to learners with dyslexia and literacy difficulties. This support may take place in the learner’s school, home or my home. My lessons are tailored to learners’ individual strengths, needs and interests to boost enjoyment and motivation. I use an evidence-based cumulative, structured, sequential programme making use of multi-sensory learning to help transfer new information to long-term memory more effectively.
Please get in touch if you would like to learn more about my specialist teaching services and discuss how I can help support your students or child.
School Support and Guidance
I also offer advice to local schools seeking guidance on how best to support their students. I offer dyslexia-friendly audits, where I will provide constructive feedback on how to make your school more dyslexia-friendly for all. I will gather information by exploring school policies, carrying out a walkthrough of the school and observing several lessons.
Please also get in touch if you are a school and would like to arrange assessments for exam access arrangements.
